Plain laser film paper is a transparent plastic sheet or roll, usually polyester (PET), with a thin coating that lets laser toner bond to it. It is not paper. It is a polymer film that behaves like paper inside a laser printer. You use it when the printed result must be see-through, waterproof, tear-proof or dimensionally stable, and a paper sheet cannot meet that need.
A laser printer does not soak ink into the sheet. It places dry toner powder on the surface with static charge, then melts that toner in a fuser. The fuser typically runs at roughly 150 to 200°C. The toner has to bond to the film during that brief contact.
This creates three demands that ordinary plastic cannot meet:
One point is often missed. Inkjet film has an absorbent coating and is wrong for laser printers. Laser film has a heat-resistant base and a toner-receptive coating and is wrong for inkjets. Never swap them.
According to the Guanhao product specification, the standard base is transparent PET with an aqueous toner-receptive coating, optionally on both sides. PP film is available on request. PET is the safer choice for laser printing because it stays stable at fuser temperatures. If you need PP for another reason, ask for written confirmation that it is compatible with your specific printer model before ordering in volume.
| Parameter | Typical value | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Base material | Transparent PET (PP on request) | PET resists fuser heat without distortion |
| Thickness | 50, 75, 100 µm | Thinner is more flexible; thicker feeds more reliably |
| Light transmittance | 88% or higher (ASTM D1003 method) | Clear enough for overlays and backlit use |
| Surface finish | Gloss or matte | Matte reduces glare, which helps barcode scanning |
| Print resolution | Up to 1200 dpi | Limited by your printer, not the film |
| Sheet sizes | A4, A3, Letter, custom | Custom die-cut sheets available |
| Roll width | 25 to 1250 mm | Slitting to your width is possible |
| Storage | 15 to 25°C, RH 65% or lower, stored flat | Shelf life is 24 months unopened |

A practical note on "gsm" figures. Film is sold by thickness, but some printer menus and buyers think in grams per square meter. PET has a density of about 1.39 g/cm³, so 50 µm is roughly 70 g/m², 75 µm is roughly 104 g/m² and 100 µm is roughly 139 g/m². These are calculated equivalents, and coating adds a little. Use them only to pick a printer media setting, and do not use them to compare against paper.
The right choice depends on your printer and the environment the print will face.
| Factor | Plain laser film | Laser coated paper | Inkjet film |
|---|---|---|---|
| Printer type | Laser and digital copier only | Laser | Inkjet only |
| Transparency | Clear | Opaque | Clear |
| Moisture | Does not absorb | Can swell and curl | Coating can smear when wet |
| Print permanence | Fused toner, resistant to smearing | Good indoors | Depends on ink and coating |
| Best for | Overlays, technical prints, durable labels | General office and labels | Photo-type transparent prints |
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Toner rubs or flakes off | Fuser too cool, wrong media setting, or humidity | Select film or heavy media; condition sheets in a dry room |
| Several sheets feed together | Static or slippery surface | Fan the stack; load only a few sheets |
| Sheet curls or wrinkles | Wrong film, or heat overload | Confirm heat-stabilized laser film; use the straight-through path |
| Shiny or streaky patches | Contaminated surface or low transfer | Handle by edges; check toner level and drum condition |
| Barcodes fail to scan | Glare from gloss finish | Switch to matte finish; print at 600 dpi or higher |
The film's value is greatest where paper fails. The table matches common jobs to the relevant Guanhao resources.
| Use case | Why film fits | Related page |
|---|---|---|
| Pharmaceutical vial and bottle labels | Contents stay visible; resists moisture | Drug Labels |
| Component and circuit board identification | Durable, small-print clarity | Electronic Labels |
| Machine tags and warning overlays | Resists chemicals and handling | Industrial Labels |
| "No-label look" product labels | Transparent face shows the package | Retail Labels |
| Cosmetic and personal-care packaging | Clear look, resists moisture | Daily Chemical |
| Shipping and tracking labels outdoors | Weather-resistant base | Logistics Labels |
| Office and short-run sheet printing | Works with desktop laser printers | A4 Flat Sheet Labels |
Beyond labels, the same film is used for technical overlays, stencils, teaching transparencies and archival drawings, where it does not tear, curl or yellow the way paper can.
If your job needs a self-adhesive label, the film face stock has to be paired with the right adhesive. Compare the options on the Film Adhesive page, or go directly to PET Film Adhesive, BOPP Film Adhesive or PE Film Adhesive. The full range is on the Product page.
Film that looks identical can perform very differently. When you compare quotes, ask for these items in writing:
Zhejiang Guanhao Functional Material Co., Ltd. is a manufacturer based in Pinghu City, Zhejiang, China, supplying film adhesive label stock to converters, brand owners and distributors. According to its company profile and product page, the quality system covers raw material inspection, release paper inspection, semi-finished and finished product checks, and includes a paper-defect detection system and an NDC online detection system. The company states that it holds ISO 9001 quality system certification, RoHS testing certification through SGS, and energy management system certification. Request current copies of these certificates from the sales team, as you would from any supplier.
Can I use it in any laser printer?
Most current laser printers and copiers can run heat-stable PET film, but always test a few sheets. Very small or low-cost models with sharp paper-path bends may struggle with stiff film.
Which thickness should I start with?
For most desktop printers, 75 µm is a practical starting point. Go thinner for flexible labels and thicker for sheets that need to feed reliably or stay flat.
Is the printed image waterproof?
The film does not absorb water, and fused toner resists smearing. Performance under solvents or abrasion depends on the toner and how well it was fused, so test under your real conditions.
Can I get it as a roll?
Yes. Rolls from 25 to 1250 mm and custom slitting are listed as available.
